Please use the following introduction when performing:

Juno award-winning Namibian singer and educator Garth Prince was unable to perform in schools during COVID. He took his drumming workshops online and made the interactive Dun Dun Dun drumming video that went viral with students and educators around the globe.

We are so happy to be able to perform in-person again, and hope you enjoy our own take on the original Dun Dun Dun music video.
TEACHER NOTES:

Created during the pandemic as a condensed version of one of my classroom workshops. This song is unique in the fact that it can be played on xylophones by Div 1.

It contains foundational knowledge of my call & response drumming techniques and an introduction to pronunciation of the drum syllables.

DUN DUN DUN

Rhythms

Dun Dun Dun (rest)

Dun Tak Dun (rest)
Duntak X2 Dun (rest)
Duntak X3 Dun
Tak. Tak. Tak. Tak Tak
Tak-tak X3 Tak
Takka takka X3 Tak
Rumble (low and high)
TEACHER NOTES:

I tested this one for performances after arranging it at home during COVID. I recommend it for younger Div 1 concerts, but the drums are very loud and can easily overpower your performance track. I therefore suggest mixing buckets and drums, but the buckets should not be used with sticks (because that is also too loud).

I am developing body percussion techniques and will post them after I test them in April.

Posted on 27 March 2023.

TEACHER NOTES:

See the score below to play along on xylophones.

Note: To balance the sound for live performances, we gave every other student a drum/bucket. Students can trade drums/buckets during the "switch" section.  However, it caused some confusion for younger grades. Hopefully the body percussion will help solve that problem as well.
