"I come from a musical background rooted in a Christian family, where I began singing in church. Over the years, I have worked with artists and professionals across many levels of the music industry, including jazz, folk, hip hop, and contemporary styles...
My journey has allowed me to explore and collaborate across almost every genre, shaping me into a versatile and dynamic artist. For me, joining the Academy is a powerful opportunity to reconnect with my African roots and culture, something I have felt distant from for some time. I see this as a chance to rebuild that connection while also expanding my reach as an artist." Jerry @jscopemusic
More voices from our growing community:
"I am a music and dance teacher who loves performing.
I have visited South Africa and Egypt and look forward to more African adventures. I love singing and learning, not just for myself but to connect with my students, many of whom come from diverse backgrounds. I am excited to join because I love working with and learning from Garth. It feels great to sing in a group, especially in the open and welcoming environment that Garth and Michelle have created. I also really appreciate that the time commitment is flexible, which works well for my schedule." Laurel "I sang in Kokopelli, now Korora, and Òran choirs from 2005 to 2012, where I performed many African songs, including during a tour to Southern Africa where I met Garth. Since then, I have sung and recorded with Garth in various shows and other capacities over the past decade. I hold a Vocal Performance Diploma from MacEwan and had the opportunity to travel in 2007 with Kokopelli Choirs to Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa. I loved my time there. I am interested in joining for the experience and my love of the music." Elise
"I grew up in Botswana where music was part of everyday life. At school, at home, in church, and when spending time with friends, there was always music. I am Motswana, and my heritage is deeply rooted in the traditions and values of Botswana. I take pride in celebrating music and dance styles like Borankana and Phathisi. I’m excited to join this community to connect with educators, parents, students, and people from all backgrounds who want to learn African music." Katlego
