Please use the following introduction when performing:
Namibian xylophone instruments are called marimbas. Grazing Back Home was a marimba composition often played as background music by The Namib Marimba band. To start his Juno-award winning album, Namibian - Canadian singer Garth Prince partnered with Tanzanian born author Tololwa Mollel to blend the song into a soundscape of story and song. The picture book accompanies the album, making it an immersive African safari experience for readers and listeners around the globe. |
TEACHER NOTES:
This one works well as a performance piece with xylophones, drums, dancing and singing for grades 5 and 6. (Without the story narration). We added rhythm sticks or clapping rhythms to reinforce the rhythms played by the xylophone players: Group one: A steady beat Group two: 8th notes (position them close to the soprano xylophones) Group three: alto xylophone rhythm and stand near them Group four: three 8th note and one 8th note rest |

TEACHER NOTES:
Skip to the middle of the video to see the chorus dance section. For performances, we usually start with xylophones, then add clapping, and finally, we sing the chorus twice. |
